As anticipation builds for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, smart lighting manufacturer Signify is rolling out an innovative new feature called "Sports Live" for its Philips Hue and WiZ product lines. This technology aims to bring the excitement of live football directly into fans' homes by dynamically altering room lighting in sync with key moments on the pitch, promising a more immersive viewing experience for the global tournament.

Unlike existing systems that often rely on analyzing on-screen content via HDMI connections, Sports Live connects directly to live match data. This direct link allows for instantaneous lighting reactions to significant in-game events, such as goals, yellow cards, and red cards, without the need for additional hardware. During lulls in play, the lighting can adapt to display the colors of a favored team, the leading team, or revert to a neutral white if the score is tied, further integrating the game's narrative into the living space.

The feature is designed for easy setup, managed through the respective Philips Hue or WiZ mobile applications. Users can select a specific room or zone within their home, provided it contains at least one color-capable smart light, to enable the synchronized effects. With the 2026 World Cup set to be hosted across the USA, Canada, and Mexico, featuring an expanded 48-team format, this new lighting integration offers fans a novel way to feel closer to the action from their own homes.
